PRIMARY REQUIREMENT
In order to be considered for this position you must currently have or will have by the start date: A Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Dean of Students is a member of the Administrative team whose work will involve management of student attendance and discipline in the building. The Dean will work directly with the Building Principal to provide leadership and support that assures students and staff are safe and able to advance student learning. This position is a half-time Dean of Students and half-time teaching position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Meet with parents when requested, particularly before and after school
- Take direct leadership in the management of student discipline and attendance
- Administer the school’s discipline and attendance policies in a fair manner that is also aligned to Board policy and state law.
- Become an active member of the IEP and 504 teams.
- Supervise school events as directed that take place after school.
- Advisor to the ASB
- Assist with the administration of state testing.
- Effectively teach ELA and ESL classes
- Properly evaluate students and assess their learning growth
- Become a positive and contributing member of the school staff
- Interact with the community in a positive manner
- Other duties as assigned
- Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of assigned students; plans an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs and possible small groups which may include at risk or special needs youth; prepares lesson plans.
- Uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials, which are suited to the well-being of the students and to the nature of the learning activities, program and/or curriculum involved; implements established program or curriculum objectives; attends in-service training and continues to improve professional growth through study and experimentation to remain current in methods and techniques for instruction.
- Establishes and implements, in a positive and supportive manner, classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; makes referrals for assistance where appropriate.
- Confers with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, maintaining an open positive relationship as appropriate to provide guidance and evaluation, and to encourage student achievement.
- Establishes classroom goals and objectives, in conformation with courses of study specified by State and School District statutes, regulations and guidelines; evaluates and records student progress; prepares reports for parents or guardians.
- Collects and interprets a variety of data; provides reports for administrative purposes.
- Acts as the leading intervention teacher in a supervisory role, directing the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.
- Work collaboratively to assist other curricular areas in the promotion and use of Reading and Language Arts across the curriculum.
- Attends or participates in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional achievement.
- Ability to differentiate for students with disabilities, highly capable students and those in between.
- Ability to coach and volunteer in extracurricular opportunities preferred.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Serves on staff committees as required.
- Participates in a variety of activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
- Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree; ESL teaching experience highly preferred; academic preparation for or experience in teaching a culturally, racially and economically diverse student population in a rural school district. Specific programs may require additional academic preparation or professional experience, including; working with bilingual students and assisting them in the transition to regular classrooms; implementing programs designed to prevent the dropout of "at risk" students; and, teaching multi-level, open-concept, and main streamed classes.
- Possess a state teaching certificate
- Administrative credential preferred, but not required
- Prior teaching experience preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated leadership
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work beyond the normal school day and Saturday events.
- Demonstrated regular attendance in past assignments
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents and staff both orally and in writing.
- Able to attend trainings to advance knowledge of the job
- Demonstrate genuine empathy and sympathy when appropriate

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Subject to hiring and acceptable Washington State Patrol Fingerprinting/Background Check. Position is continuing and begins August 2025.

TERMS OF CONTRACT
SALARY RANGE $48,881 - $99,727 (current salary schedule – will increase for 2026)
